Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy – Kassandra Sergent

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy – Kassandra Sergent

First of all, I want to thank Georgetown Bariatrics and Dr. Smith for giving me the opportunity to share a little bit about my journey. I’ve struggled with my weight for the majority of my adult life. After years of dieting and trying different things, I was completely frustrated with my weight. I would lose weight quickly and then gain it back, sometimes even gaining more than when I started! After getting back up to 280 pounds, I was miserable. I did not want to look at myself in the mirror nor did I want to be photographed. I had no energy to do stuff and overall felt horrible. I needed help. I reached out to several people that had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy one being a patient of Dr. Smith’s. She had great success and was doing a phenomenal job several years after her surgery. It was very inspiring to me. I wanted to learn how to not over eat and how to stop eating when I was full. I needed a “tool”, Not a quick fix. I started the process at Georgetown Bariatrics in 2020 and on December 20th of 2020, I had my surgery. Were there struggles after surgery? Of course, there was. I had to learn how to use my new “tool”. With will power, determination and the help of the staff at Georgetown Bariatrics, I have persevered. I have learned to listen to my body. I actually stop eating now when I’m full…not when all the food is gone or, until I can’t handle anymore.  I have the energy now to do stuff with my kids. They have truly been my motivation. I don’t mind to look at myself in a mirror now and will even pose for a picture.  My overall confidence has improved, and I feel amazing at 135 pounds.  I am thankful to Georgetown Bariatrics and Dr. Smith for giving me the tool I need to live a healthier and happy life.
